UQ Rugby is proud to welcome Brian MacNish as the 20th Life Member of the University of Queensland Rugby Football Club. Dr Mark Loane AM presented Brian with his Life Membership at our NYC Benefit Dinner.

Brian first pulled on a UQ jersey in 1973. A prop through and through, he played 44 first grade games for the Red Heavies, won the 1979 premiership, earned a UQ Half Blue and represented Australian Universities and Queensland.

He went on to build his life and career in New York, but he never left the Club behind. In 2014 Brian started the inaugural UQ Rugby Benefit Dinner, and he has been integral to its planning every year since. His idea was simple: UQ Rugby people are all over the world, and they deserve a night to come home to.

More than a decade on, the dinner has connected hundreds of UQ Rugby alumni and raised an incredible amount for the Club. Through the Mark Loane Medal, it has also brought young American players to St Lucia.

Thank you to Steve Wilson, Chair of the UQ Rugby Foundation and Brian’s former teammate, for sharing Brian’s story on the night.
Congratulations Brian, and thank you for your service to our Club.
